Seventeen percent in women usually keeps a defined waist and some abdominal shadow, especially above the navel. A full six-pack at rest is less consistent than at 15–16%. Shoulders and arms look dry if the person trains them. Facial leanness is obvious without always looking drawn. Glute and thigh fat is low for a woman but higher than an equivalently lean man, which is expected sexually dimorphic storage. The hip shelf is present as shape, not as a thick pad. This level appears among physique athletes in a building phase and among lean endurance athletes. It is not a typical clinic result. The visual step from 18–20% is a clearer waist and more muscle grain on the midsection. Sustainability varies widely; some women report normal function here, others do not. The scan is not a verdict on either.
