Eighteen percent is a lean, athletic female DEXA band that still shows a small abdominal outline on many trained women, mostly in the upper rectus. The lower abdomen is smoother. Vascularity is uncommon. The face looks fit. Hips and glutes have a thin, athletic layer — curves are there because of pelvis and muscle as much as fat. Thighs show quad shape if trained. This range is more common in sport than in the general population. Shirt-on, the waist is small; shirt-off, the look is “athletic” rather than stage-lean. Compared with 22%, the midsection is flatter and the hip pad is thinner. Cycle-related water can temporarily hide abs that a scan at 18% would lead you to expect. Muscle mass again splits the category: a heavily trained 18% does not resemble a lightly trained 18%.
