Twenty percent body fat in women is a lean-to-athletic scan that many trained women recognize. Upper abs may catch light; a carved six-pack is uncommon at rest. The waist is defined. Hips and glutes have a clear feminine fat distribution without looking heavy. Thighs show some shape. The face looks healthy rather than depleted. Vascularity is rare. This band is popular in fitness photography because it still reads as “in shape” in ordinary clothes while remaining more sustainable for many women than the mid-teens. It is lean relative to general-population female DEXA means. Compared with 18%, there is a bit more tissue at the posterior hips and a slightly thicker lower abdomen. Compared with 25%, the waist is smaller and muscle lines on the shoulders are easier to see.
