At 23%, female physiques usually show a soft abdomen and fully established hip, glute, and thigh storage. Abs appear only with a strong flex or not at all. The waist is moderate. Arms are covered enough to mute triceps detail. The face has normal fullness. This level is common among active women who are not dieting. It sits below many published female population averages. Side-by-side with 20%, the extra tissue is mostly through the waist and the posterior chain. Side-by-side with 28%, 23% still looks relatively compact through the midsection. Cycle water, sodium, and a large meal change the abdominal photo more than they change the DEXA number from last month. Muscle mass in the glutes can make 23% look very different in fitted clothes without changing the scan.
