At 17%, male abdominal separation is usually faint at rest. Upper abs may still catch light; the navel area looks smoothly covered. A small roll can appear when the torso is compressed by a belt or by sitting. Vascularity is mostly an arms-after-training story. Facial fat is unremarkable — neither lean nor heavy. Hip and lower-back fat are noticeable as a change in silhouette from the mid-teens. Thighs start to lose separation unless the person is quite muscular. This level is ordinary for men who train a few times a week and do not diet aggressively. It is well above contest conditioning and well below the averages reported in many sedentary samples. Compared with 15%, clothes fit a bit looser at the waist, and the midsection looks less “etched” in casual photos. Muscle mass again does most of the work in whether the same 17% reads as stocky or simply average.
